Information On Geothermal Systems In Cincinnati

We have had customers ask for more information on Geothermal Systems in Cincinnati, and thus wanted to provide a better understanding of how these systems work, the benefits for the homeowner and installation information. Geothermal systems use a heat exchanger and a heat pump which takes advantage of the nearly constant temperature of the earth which is between 45 and 70 degrees. Since this ground temperature is cooler than the air above in the summer, and warmer in the winter, a heat exchanger and a heat pump circulates a mixture of antifreeze and water through a series of closed-loop pipes buried in the ground. The pipes function to either absorb heat from the ground or disperse heat into the ground.

Transferring heat in the summer will result in cool air being pumped into the home’s interior – providing an effective air conditioning system. In the winter months, the process is reversed with heat from the ground being delivered to the home’s interior air distribution system. The heat removed from the interior air in the summer can heat water eliminating the need for gas or electricity.

Geothermal’s cost efficient operation is a real enticement for the homeowner to consider installing this system because it can provide a return of up to five units of energy for every one unit of electrical energy used. This translates into an energy savings of up to ~70% for cooling, heating and hot water needs. The costs of installing a Geothermal system can be recovered in 5 to 10 years. The life of the system is considered to be 25 years for the mechanical components and 50 years for the ground loop.

The end result? Enhanced comfort can be achieved all year long and the system is very efficient and quiet!
