Many homes in Cincinnati use oil furnaces for their heating. Oil furnaces can be tremendously wasteful and expensive. Natural gas furnaces are generally more efficient, but older natural gas furnaces lose a great deal of their effectiveness over time. You could be losing a third of the heat you are paying for, and having a third of your home’s heat going out your flue. This means wasted heat and wasted money!
Natural gas furnaces come with many options, and given how cold Cincinnati can get, it is smart to have a maintenance checkup now before the deep chill sets in. We can send one of our Pinnacle Air Solutions professionals to your home for a free consultation anywhere in the Cincinnati area to examine your current heating situation and recommend what you can do to lower your energy bills.
Today’s gas furnaces are generally more reliable than older oil or gas furnaces, but they still require occasional checkups and seasonal maintenance to ensure continued service and efficiency.
Gas Furnace Efficiency Measurement – Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency (AFUE)
Furnaces are measured by their AFUE, or Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency. Inside a natural gas furnace, the fuel mixes with air and burns. Those flames in the furnace warm up a metal heat exchanger, which converts that thermal energy into warm air and pushes it out by the force of an internal fan. The flue is where the combustion products vent out of the building. Since the newer natural gas furnaces have inducer fans, they can pull this exhaust through the heat exchange, and induce draft in the chimney. This is why replacing your old furnace with a newer gas furnace can help save you money.
